The holiday bells are ringing, the sale catalogs are showing up at your door, and the festive meal ideas are filling up your search engine results.

No matter where you live or what you celebrate, the holiday season can invoke feelings of stress and overwhelm when it is so often meant to be a celebratory time.

On top of that, there are often more losses during the colder months than in the warmer months.

Meaning if your holiday season is in the Northern Hemisphere, you may also be celebrating the anniversaries of lost loved ones. Adding to the complexities of emotion at a time when you are being asked to be merry and bright.

The good news is that the holidays can be a happy time. You can tap into the energy of merriment this time of year and carry that feeling you see in the movies along for the duration of the season.

I've been to many holiday parties, after the preparation of many stressful potluck meals. And I have found a few little tools that work to brighten the mood and shift entirely the attitude you carry going into what may have been a dreaded event in past years.

Having a happy holiday is possible, with these four techniques -

4 ways to have a happy holiday season

1. Pivot into a new moment when going to an event

End scene.

I believe it was William Shakespeare, who said that the entire world was a play and that we are all actors. As souls living out destinies on Earth, it is somewhat true we are each playing a character we chose for this incarnation on planet Earth.

Knowing that you may very well be fulfilling a soul role, you may as well tap into this idea and live it to the fullest.

Each time you start a new scene this season:

  • A new person enters the room

  • You begin a new activity

  • You get in the car to go somewhere else

  • You enter a party

Set your intention for the scene.

This is what is called thought pivoting.

Setting positive mini-goals for each scene can absolutely improve the results of the scene. I started doing this years ago in graduate school when preparing for tests. I would tell myself I'd do well on my way to the exam, and each time I did that, I'd score ten points higher than in the previous tests when I didn't.

You can apply this technique to everyday activities for more optimal results, too.

For example, parking the car to enter the next holiday party, say to yourself that you intend to have fun. Then go inside. A small action such as holding an attitude intention for the event can help tailor word choices and behavior to help you achieve the outcome you hoped to have. For most of us, this outcome is usually a fun time.

For more information on pivoting, which is a process most well known from the Abraham Hicks teachings, I suggest starting with a trilogy of the books, called The Essential Law of Attraction Collection.

2. Clear your energy before entering any gathering or during if you need to

The holidays can create tensions inside the home that can easily be carried along to gatherings with other families, couples, or groups.

Bringing negative energy into someone else's home can dampen the merriment. So for just one night, try releasing yours even if it’s justified.

If you notice that you or anyone in your family's energy is wonky on the way to an event, before entering, visualize yourself clearing it.

You can use a white light meditation. You can also clear the energy by playing happy, high vibrational songs or by applying mood-elevating fragrances.

My easy energy clearing technique is simple: three deep breaths, roll my shoulders back and down, rest my gaze. Visualize a spiral of golden clearing light wrapping my energy is Divine Love. Big exhale when done.

I usually like to do this energy work in the car. You can also do it on a train or in a bathroom.

When holiday arguments have erupted in my gang while tensions were on the rise, I've asked if anyone would like me to clear the energy. I've always gotten a yes. I guess that you will too.

But if you offer publicly to clear the group and only get shrugs, know all you can do is offer. Clear your own energy in silence and keep yourself in high spirits. And they may see such a difference, they ask you next time.

3. Invoke the Violet Flame

The Violet Flame is purifying light energy of blue and pink mixed together. It often appears in meditations as golden orange in the middle and fuschia violet on the outsides. It is a mix of energy that represents eternal truth (blue) and love (pink).

When paired together, these light rays can be used to purify any situation.

Here's how you can use the Violet Flame to have a positive holiday season -

Imagine any person or situation that has troubled or stressed you. Now envision it being engulfed and surrounded by the Violet Flame and continue to envision it until all you see is violet light in your mind's eye.

Then envision the Violet Flame over your energy field and lighting up the seat of your soul in your solar plexus, also known as your lower abdomen.

Continue to visualize the Violet Flame going to any individual or situation that has given you any level of unease in the previous years, anyone that you anticipate discord with. Allow it to purify the energy so that it completely shifts before you get there.

After you do this, visualize new encounters with the person or situation that are positive and how you would respond.

Preparing in advance for a new outcome helps - as you don't want to have your jaw drop when it's completely different than before, because that's a possibility with this exercise.

4. Ponder positive answers in advance to questions that have previously troubled you

The holidays are a great time to catch up with friends, loved ones, and family members.

When we do this, it's natural for those in our soul group to want updates on personal or projected life goals that you or they may have deemed as valuable.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this, it helps keep us all in the direction of our dreams.

This year, consider being truthful and positive with the answers to things.

Think about the milestone questions you may be asked this year in advance and think about the answers you might give using a positive spin.

Having or not having a baby? People may want to know if you'll have another baby. Think about your ideas and plans on this.

Married or engaged yet? People may want to know when or if you will be. What are your thoughts on this, and the real reasons why you are or aren't?

Buying or not buying a house? Earnestly consider your philosophies as to why and then be prepared to share that positive and well-considered answer.

Just because the person who asks is on a different timeline, doesn't mean they aren't open to new possibilities or reasonings as to why individual souls do certain things.

In fact, when someone asks you a question, it is a sign they are willing and ready to hear the insight your soul has to offer.

You may as well share it. You can absolutely be positive, honest, and thoughtful when you do it. Your answers don’t have to be long either. You can be short and straightforward to convey something well thought out. You don't always need a lot of words to convey the truth and go on to have a merry time.

To recap, the four best tips for a happy holiday season

#1

Intentionally change scenes by setting a new goal for each internal activity. For example, getting in the car to go to a party, mentally intending to have fun.

#2

Clear your energy or offer to clear the energy of your group before entering any event if needed or if tensions get out of hand.

#3

Invoke the Violet Flame to purify relationship and situational tensions in the days and weeks leading up to any events.

#4

Consider positive answers to pressing questions before you go. Questions are a sign that someone is open and willing to learn from what you have to share.

So to end, easing holiday tensions can be as easy as applying a few energy clearing techniques and sending love and sharing the love with those we love in our soul group.

These are just a few of the ways I've found helpful and supportive for lifting the energy of the season and truly creating happier and merrier time for all involved.

Give one or a few of the above techniques a try and watch as the shifts unfold.
