The rising of the new moon is one of the darkest nights of the sky.

This start of a moon period represents the start of a new cycle, and likewise, the first day of the new moon period is considered to be a time to begin undertaking any new project or task.

The new moon represents a beginning, a blank slate and a fresh start.

New moons symbolize rising energy. The intentions you set during the new moon period is similar to setting intentions when welcoming the rising of the sun each morning.

With the rising of the sun, you have the opportunity of a fresh beginning and a new outlook, each and every day, and with the new moon you have the same opportunity, but on a slightly longer scale.

Coming once every 29 days versus once every 24 hours, a new moon initiates a period of days in which the energy is building, flowing and increasing.

The new moon is the start of a new lunar cycle, and if you consider yourself guided by the moon, you are also offered the opportunity to start anew.

For each new moon that passes, you have an opportunity to set out to accomplish a bigger goal, intention or manifestation project.

To take advantage of the new moon, celebrate the event with some intentions.

Some people like to set these intentions in a ritual. A ritual is nothing more than a sacred timespace you create to perform a few conscious actions - such as lighting a candle or meditating when you set these intentions.

Do you have a goal you’d like to meet? A project you would like to start?

Below are a series of quick new moon rituals, you only need to do one, so simply choose the ritual that works best for you - meaning, the one that sparks your interest most.

Here’s a few New Moon Intention examples:

Example 1. Decide what you’ll start

Choose one thing you’ll do differently or new this month. Maybe you are simplifying, maybe you are cleaning something, maybe you are committing to respond to something with another type of attitude.

You can begin your new change within the first two weeks after a new moon to take advantage of the rising energy of the moon moving from new to full.

Your “one thing different” can be to learn something new, such as beginning a book you’ve been meaning to read or cultivating a new relationship. It can be a house project, a self-love project or a job task.

If you’ve been meaning to start something for a while, but have been holding back, procrastinating or stopping yourself because of a fear - this new moon, jump in with two feet and commit to growth.

Example 2. Make a list

Make a list of the top 5 projects you want to get initiated. Write down your intended projects.

Notice the first item on the list and ask yourself, what are three things I can do to get this project going?

Repeat with each item on this list once a day, moving down the list item by item until all of these projects have been activated.

Example 3. Focus one whole day on manifesting your dream

A new moon manifestation ritual. The new moon is a great time for starting something, so why not spend the time committing to your vision for your dream with actions?

During the period of the new moon, re-visit your vision board, and take a day to do research and development needed or take action to make one of your visions happen.

With the new moon, you begin anew. You can start today.

Review each example and see which fits best with you now.

When is the best time to perform a new moon ritual?

The best time to perform any new moon ritual is during the three day window when the sky is darkest surrounding the new moon. This is typically the day before, during and after every new moon.

When is the next new moon?

It changes every month! My favorite resource for finding out when the next moon will be is the Moon Phases Calendar on FarmersAlmanac.com.
