Before Oracle Cards were ever a thing, there were always other means of divination. Before paper was invented, for example, there were carved stones and sticks with symbols. There were visions and dreams.

There was also divination by:

  • Cloud Patterns

  • Weather

  • Wind Directions

  • Seasons and Moon Cycles

  • Birds Appearing Earlier Than Usual

  • And then just any other method you can imagine

Many people still use these early more nature-based methods of divining. It helps for tuning in better, being dually tuned into the earth while you connect above, it helps create a better conduit for a connection. Then, paper was invented.

With that, came books, newspapers, and then naturally, fortune telling and playing cards, many of which, ultimately became fortune telling cards in a pinch (people still use playing cards this way too).

Did you know that many early prophets used their libraries as divination tools?

Diving from books is technically a form of claircognizant divination manifesting in the physical with physical words.

If you are primarily claircognizant and you know it, this would be an especially good exercise for you. It's also great for primary clairvoyants too, because it flexes the opposite muscle to that sense, balancing both things out.

some Books I like for this type of divination are

Some of these were purposefully created to be self-divining oracle books, to be open at random books of guidance but you can use most books as such if your metaphor skills are good.

These listed above are just a great place to start.

But there are thousands of books you can use for flip-to-page divination.

Literally, thousands of books you can use to divine for quotes and wisdom.

So now that we've covered that, let's give it a go.

If you don't have the books above just yet, let's try this with the books you do have.

As long as you have access to at least one book, you can begin using this technique.

Below we’ll go over five steps how -

#1

Get yourself all set up with all your books.

Get in the center of your library, or if you don't have a full library, get in front of your bookshelves. If you don't have bookshelves, get the three books you do have and put them in front of your eyes on the ground before you.

#2

Take a few breaths then close your eyes. Think about what you want to know about.

#3

Open your eyes and ask yourself this: What book is my eye drawn to? Which book is just popping out of the wall? What is right here in front of me?

#4

Choose that book. Pick up the first book that draws you toward it.

#5

Then choose 5A or 5B below, depending on your mood.

Both work.

5A. Pick up the book, close your eyes, think of the first number that comes to mind. Open the book to that page, and read.

5B. Pick up the book, close your eyes, begin fanning the pages, and decide in your mind if you are going to focus on the left side of the margin or the right.

Then open your eyes, and let your pages fall wherever they do, and read.

Do a couple of books this way to get a well-rounded answer, just in the way when you do an oracle card reading, a minimum of three cards is usually what it takes to get a well-rounded question sorted out.

So to recap, to divine from a book

Spin around the room, let your eyes be drawn to a certain book, then

  1. Close your eyes

  2. Flip to a page, asking for a page number mentally

  3. Put a finger down

  4. Reading that passage as your Divine Message

  5. Then divine from it, taking action on the guidance within

So . . . that's it.

That's how you divine from a book.

Getting a clearer reading this way

If 'nothing substantial' has come through or it seems scattered, it's likely because one of two things is happening:

Either the diviner themselves or the person hearing the message has too low an energy reserve to get a clear connection.

Without a clear connection - you're fuzzy on what books to choose, what numbers you want, and so on. It's all fuzzy.

If you are the diviner, you can change this.

Do something that raises your energy and try it again.

For myself, the fastest I raise energy is by listening to something that uplifts me.
