Wasp Symbolism: 7 Spiritual Meanings of Wasps
Updated 2024.11.06
What does a wasp in your home symbolize? Noticing wasps in your house, near your property or in your dreams and meditations, and want to know what it could mean spiritually?
Below learn the answers -
Wasps have slender, smooth bodies with relatively few hairs. They have a noticeable narrow waist and are often predatory. Only females can sting and they are usually winged.
There are thousands of species of wasps and they can be social or solitary. Of the social species, there are hornets and yellow jackets, which are very well known in my neck of the woods.
Because of the bright colors of some wasps, namely the yellow jacket, they are easy to see and make sense of in our environment.
In general wasps symbolize taking action, positive defensiveness, logical thinking and that abundance is near.
For a deeper dive into wasp symbolism, below are 7 spiritual messages of the wasp:
1 - Pay attention to how your energy affects others
Wasp venom contains pheromones that can influence other wasps to become more aggressive. If you swat at one near its nest or other wasps, you may find yourself with a bigger problem than the one you originally had.
When wasps show up, it can be a sign that the energy, mood, and/or chemical signals you project influences others near you. If you can directly see a link between your mood and others’ actions, you may choose to be more conscientious at this time.
2 - Consider more female-centric systems in your life
In the world of wasps, males don’t have the ability to sting. Their job is to mate with the queens then die. In fact, the only wasps that survive winter are female wasp queens.
The wasp social system is female-centric. If wasps appear in your life, it can be validation that your life is currently operating this way or that it's time to think about how to arrange a female-centric system in your life.
3 - Defend your nest
Wasps sting to eat, defend themselves and their nests. They often sting humans when viewing them as a threat to the nest.
If a wasp appears in your life, it could be a sign that being defensive in protecting yourself and your nest from threats could have a positive impact. You may want to consider threats and possible defensive maneuvers in advance, in case these things should come to pass.
4 - Create your own abundance
Paper wasps make their own paper by chewing up and spitting out bark, using their saliva to form a pulp, then they use that pulp to build their nest. Humans got the idea to make their own paper from these wasps, though it didn’t take off for a few hundred years.
When a wasp appears, it may be a sign that you have some raw materials around that you can use to create a valuable resource, like shelter for your family group.
5 - Use multiple pieces of information to draw conclusions
Wasps are logical and they have been shown to use two separate pieces of information to make their decisions.
According to the researcher in charge of the study,
“...if a wasp saw Jane win a fight with Lisa and that wasp had previously won a fight with Jane, the wasp could infer that she could probably beat Lisa…”
Since wasps can use this type of abstract reasoning to consider possibilities, so can you. If wasps have flown into your life, it can be a sign that you too can use similar information to connect the dots.
6 - Keep pests at bay
Like Dragonflies, wasps are considered to be nature’s pest killers. They can kill cockroaches and are even known to kill cancer with a toxin in their venom that eliminates it.
Wasps can be a reminder of the important role of keeping pests to a minimum.
7 - Be proactive
The wasp takes action to support their nest with predation and defend its nest with stinging attack, wasps can be a sign of taking strong actions to achieve your goals.
When a wasp appears, it can symbolize that simply thinking about what you want to see happen will not get the job done right now - you need to start taking firm action to accomplish your goals.
So to recap, 7 spiritual messages of the wasp are:
Pay attention to how your energy affects others
Consider more female-centric systems in your life
Defend your nest
Create your own abundance
Use multiple pieces of information to draw conclusions
Keep pests at bay
Be proactive
